10 Essential Things To Bring For A Fishing Trip

Most people always like to participate in various leisure activities during the summer, one of them being fishing. A lot of people finds fishing to be quite an awesome activity and has always been seen as a manly pastime as others would describe it.

This is because a lot of people, mainly men, often participate in this activity as it provides a better platform for catching up with some old friends or just to ease up your mind after a long day at the office. However, fun as it sounds, there are a couple of things that you need to make sure are in place before you set off for your fishing trip.

For instance, you must ensure that you have a well equipped tackle box for efficiency during the practice. The tools in your tackle box are however determined by the type of fish you are looking forward to catch. This is another point you should also consider. Anyway, for you to have a great fishing experience, there are a lot of things you will have and below are a few essential ones.

Fishing License

In each state there are always a few rules and regulations that regulates the fishing practice. These rules and regulations are usually different in different states. So for you to be able to practice fishing in these places, you will need to obtain a license as an indication that you have been allowed to fish. Maybe you might know of some places where you don’t need a license but still it is important to check as you never know when all that changed.

Water and food

If your main aim is to go back home with at least a catch, then you can never really tell how long you are going to be in the water. It is therefore a good idea to always remember to carry some water and a few snacks with you. After all, we all need some energy to keep us going, right? However, if you know that you are going to stay in water for a long time, regardless of whether you want to catch some fish then you should consider carrying more provisions.

Fishing Gear

As part of preparations for your trip, you also need to ensure that you have the appropriate gear that you are going to use. Some of these gears include a fully equipped tackle box, some bait, a rod and a reel. At least these are some of the basic equipment you need to have for fishing. Other gears you need include swivels, sinkers, hooks, lines and corks. Some of these gears often vary with the type of fish you are looking to catch. Also the clothes you put on should also be considered depending on different weather conditions.

It is important to take the right fishing gear for the right place. You don’t want to bring gear that you would normally use on a river for lake fishing. For example, say you went fishing on Eagle Lake, Ontario and you brought bait that is not seen on the lake but only in the river where your from. You are never going to catch a fish! Make sure to  look online or in guides or handbooks to find the “right” bait to use.

Waterproof bag

This is also an important thing to have. Even though it seems like a small detail but it can greatly be of help. When you are out fishing, you never know how it can go. Even if you didn’t plan on having any contact with the water, the water might still get to you, after all, you are dealing with water. This is why you need a waterproof Ziploc bag to keep items like your wallet and phone among other items that might get damaged by the water.

Maps

Just like on land, people can also get lost in during fishing trips in the water, especially when in large water bodies. This is why you will always find almost every angler with a map when they are at the sea as it is very easy to get lost. It is always important to know where you are at all times.

First Aid Kit

In everything you do, you need to remember that your safety always come first. Fishing can also be as dangerous as any other activity out there as there are a few sharp objects that are always involved in this activity. Other things that you should also remember to bring along with your first aid kit includes a sunscreen, polarized sunglasses, bug repellent, other feminine items if there are some female anglers on board, a rescue bag and some nylon rope.

Camera and tape measure

As we travel around we always want to capture the best memories and maybe share them with friends when we get back home or family. When you get to the water, you never know how lucky you could be when you get to cast your line. You might be surprised to reel in the biggest ever fish and this is a moment you would obviously want to capture. This is why you need to always be ready with your camera for such occasions.

A Backpack

Even Goro from mortal kombat would definitely use some help since his four arms wouldn’t be enough to carry everything you need on your fishing trip. You can always find a good backpack that has outer compartments for extra room to put your things. This helps you to keep your things well organized for convenience.

Water shoes

The river rocks can always get very slippery and some of them are quite sharp and slick. Due to this, you will need to be very careful when fishing in a rocky river and some of the precautions you need to take includes putting on a good footwear suitable for these situations. A good water footwear can always keep your feet safe from scrapes and getting pricked. For the rocky rivers, you can always go for the felt bottomed shoes for wading. Otherwise, you can do well with sandals or even some old tennis shoes.

Extra lines and hooks

As you are fishing, your line might accidentally get caught by a log beneath the water or even receive a bite from a monster fish. This will definitely lead to your line breaking and therefore the need to always have an extra line with you. You never know when your line will snap. Also, you can go ahead and curry different types of hooks so that you’ll always be ready to catch any type of fish anytime.

Fishing is always great and has been with us for quite a long period of time. Whether you are doing it as a business or just for leisure, you will have to consider a lot of things before you could get to the water. However, the ones listed above are some of the basic things that can get you started. Having them makes you enter the water like a pro.
