6 Weekend Activities You Can Do Outside in Nature

After being cooped up inside for so long due to most places in the world going under lockdown, it’s only natural to want to get out into the wild, spend some time in nature and breath fresh air. It’s important to take breaks, especially breaks that involve getting away from social media and the internet for a while.

Not everyone has the time to go on long, extravagant road trips, though. Luckily, there are quite a few ways that you can outside in nature, and they won’t take you more than a weekend. In fact, some of these will only take a few hours, but that’s sometimes all we need to refresh ourselves.

Fishing

Grab your fishing gear if you own any, or you can rent some. Either way, fishing is a great way of getting outside and doing something. Plus, you can choose which type of fishing you want to do – freshwater fishing is generally more relaxed, whereas saltwater fishing is more exciting and requires specialized gear, such as spinning reels designed for saltwater. You can make a day out of it or just spend a few hours taking a break from your busy life – the choice is yours.

Hiking

Hiking is a great way of getting outside and improving your health at fitness at the same time. The great thing about hiking is that there are trails for complete amateurs, as well as experienced hikers, so you can find one that suits you and slowly increase the difficulty over time. Make sure you have proper hiking gear and stay hydrated. Just as with fishing, you can decide to just spend a while doing it, or you can challenge yourself and do a longer trail.

Stargazing

Maybe you don’t want to go outside during the day. If so, stargazing is the perfect activity for you. While you can theoretically stargaze from anywhere outside, even your own home, it’s advised that you find a place away from the city, where you can clearly see the sky. This is the perfect romantic date, or you can do it as a family. Print out some star charts to take along with you and see what you can spot.

Cycling

If hiking isn’t your cup of tea, maybe cycling is. Cycling is a great activity to do with friends or alone, and most cities have beautiful, scenic cycling trails that you can take. This is a fun way to get outside while also squeezing a workout into your weekend.

Camping

Is a day not enough for you? Do you want an outdoors activity that can be done for an entire weekend? Well, camping is the answer for you. Once again, camping is great for families, groups of friends, couples, or even just yourself, if you want some solo time. It’s a great way of getting away from the hustle and bustle of city life and reconnecting with nature and all it has to offer. Even if you’ve never camped before, it will be easy with a few tips.

Adventure sports

If you’re looking for a rush of adrenaline to go alongside your time outside in nature, you’re in luck. There are various activities and sports that can be practiced outdoors in the fresh air. Many of these will give you a thrill, since they involve a bit of danger. If you want to get your heart racing, try rock climbing, zip lining, or abseiling. These activities are sure to be a challenge, so make sure you have someone to teach you the basics if you’re a beginner. You can also try some water sports, such as canoeing, or even snow sports if you want to make the most of winter.
